BUILDING WORK

CHANGE TO MAIN SURGERY ENTRANCE

As from Monday 6th February, the usual surgery entrance will be closed for building work to be carried out. The new entrance will be to the left of the telephone exchange in the car park.

 The building work will start on 6th February and be finished by 11th June.

FLU VACCINATION CLINICS NOW AVAILABLE

If you are 65 years old or above or in one of the clinical 'at risk' groups, it is recommended that you have a seasonal flu vaccination.

Patient Participation Group

The surgery Patient Participation Group is looking to recruit new members, particularly younger patients aged between 16 - 45, those with a young family, carers and those who live outside Alrewas Village so that the group is more representative of our patient population.

We meet every other month and the meetings alternate between Monday lunchtimes & Thursday evenings.

chdDisease Management

We offer comprehensive care for patients with long term conditions – this encompasses Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Hypertension, Heart, Kidney and Thyroid related conditions. We invite patients, in their birth month, for an annual monitoring appointment with a practice nurse.

Minor Injuries

Our Practice Nurses are able to assess and treat minor injuries. This can often avoid the need to visit hospital.

Minor Surgery

The practice undertakes minor operations to help avoid long waits for hospital treatment. Procedures include the removal of moles, cysts, skin tags and cryosurgery. Please discuss this with a doctor.

Blood Tests

Our Health Care Assistants run a Phlebotomy Clinic for taking blood tests every weekday morning between 8.30am and 12pm.

We provide family planning advice. Please speak to a doctor or Practice Nurse for further information and advice.

Maternity

Please contact the surgery to make an appointment with the Midwife, Maria Broomhall, as soon as you know you are pregnant.

Child Development & Immunisation

Baby checks and development assessments are provided, by appointment, by the Health Visitor, Sally Jordan, at the surgery.The British Immunisation Schedule states that all children should receive immunisation to protect against childhood illnesses. New Baby and Post Natal check

This incorporates the routine post natal check up and an 8-week baby check with the doctor. Baby's first set of immunisations are offered and given by the Practice Nurse and Health Visitor.

flujabsFlu & Pneumonia Vaccinations

Both these vaccinations are available for everyone over 65 and those under 65 with a long term condition or who is a carer. The flu vaccination is an annual jab offered from late September; the pneumonia jab is a one-off.

Travel Health Advice & Immunisation

As soon as you know your travel plans, we recommend that you make a telephone appointment to speak to Paula or Sally to discuss what vaccinations you may require.

Smoking Cessation

Gail Dodd, one of our Health Care Assistants, very successfully runs our Smoking Cessation clinics. Initial consultations can be booked through Reception.

ECGs

Appointments to be booked on referral from the Doctor or Practice Nurse on Wednesday or Friday afternoons.

Well Person Screening

The Practice Nurses provide routine health checks, particularly for patients who do not regularly attend the surgery. Please book a 20 minute appointment and bring along a urine sample (bottles are available from Reception).

Chiropody

There is a weekly chiropody clinic. Referrals are made via the GPs.

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapist has clinics at the surgery on 2 days each week, providing advice and treatment for patients referred with musculo-skeletal disorders.

Counselling

There is a Psychologist and a Community Psychiatric Nurse attached to the practice. Referrals are made via the GPs.
